I really like openings during the winter season because it’s a little slower and more personal. Maybe the cold acts as a natural selection for the diehard, but it is easier to meet people and have a real conversation instead of the usual “hey how are ya, who’s behind ya” kind of thing. It might be my imagination, but it also seems that the work is usually a little riskier (and not in the shock-art, ‘look at me’ kind of way.)

That said, there are some great shows up right now.

Jonathan Danenbring has some really interesting work up at Thomas Robertello (pictures above). My cell phone pictures don’t do the work justice but there are some better ones on the gallery website if you click the link. His work appears to be about obsoletion and mysterious layering process that Time uses in that process. He does this by presenting current or near current objects in new forms with eye towards the forensic. And he does it with impeccable attention to detail, these are beautiful objects in addition to the interesting content.

The Hinge Gallery also has fantastic work up right now and a fun event, a Monster Seminar, where all things monster will be discussed and presented on Feb 11th from 6-8pm.

The Coprosperity Sphere has a fun show up right now and is hosting a “family friendly” metal show tonight at 8pm.
